Summary

Introduction. In 2010, the Galician Health Technology Assessment Agency (avalia-t) issued a report on laser treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which contained a proposed list of 19 evidence-based quality indicators for the assessment of such treatment. The object of the second phase of this project was for a panel of BPH-management experts to evaluate the suitability of these indicators for assessing the quality of different types
of surgical treatment of BPH.

Objectives. To draw up quality indicators for evaluation of laser surgery in the treatment of BPH, based on scientific evidence and expert consensus.

Methods. We used a modified RAND/UCLA consensus method without
face-to-face meetings, with two assessment rounds, in which panellists
anonymously allocated scores if they considered the indicators suitable for assessing the quality of surgical treatment of BPH.
